History- Panda came to us needing help and a safe place. She has been in our care since March 15, 2026.
Personality- Panda is the kind of dog who quietly changes you. She is a senior cattle dog with a body that shows the miles she has traveled. Panda is completely deaf, partially blind, and her back end has significant muscle loss that limits her mobility. Because of her age and physical challenges, Panda may very well be a hospice dog. But if you ask her, she still has plenty of living left to do. What Panda lacks in physical strength, she makes up for with pure spirit. She has sass, opinions, and a surprising amount of determination. She still wants to be part of life. She still wants to be loved. Panda adores children and lights up around them. Like many very senior dogs, Panda can become restless. She will pace unless she is safely and gently restricted. This structure actually helps her settle, allowing both her mind and her body to relax. It is one of the ways her caregivers help keep her comfortable. And when Panda relaxes, you see the softer side of her. She melts when you pet the top of her head, closing her eyes and leaning into your hand like she has been waiting for that moment all day. Panda would do best in a home without steps, though she has learned to use a ramp for potty breaks and is doing well with it. The truth is, Panda may not have years ahead of her. But what she does have is something very special. Dogs like Panda love with a depth that only comes from experience and resilience. The time she has left will be filled with gratitude, quiet companionship, and a kind of connection that stays with you forever. Panda is still here because she wants to be. She wants a soft place to land, a family to belong to, and gentle hands to rest her head beneath. She is absolutely worth taking a chance on.
Cohabitation- She does fine with most other dogs, though she prefers companions who respect her space. Male dogs smaller than her tend to make her uncomfortable, and she is very particular about her food and water dishes being her own. For that reason, she is happily crate-fed so she can enjoy her meals without worry
Favorite Activities- She loves crunchy chews that are gentle on older teeth, and it is remarkable how quickly she will wake from a deep sleep if she smells a freeze-dried duck foot or a beef trachea nearby. Outside time with her people is Panda’s absolute favorite thing. She enjoys slow walks, as long as you are patient and willing to move at her pace. When her legs get tired, she is perfectly happy to continue the adventure from a wagon. One of her favorite experiences is rolling down a gentle trail in her wagon, the breeze brushing her face while she tilts her nose toward the sun. In those moments, she looks genuinely happy.
Medical- She is Lyme positive, but she has completed her course of antibiotics and has been feeling brighter since treatment.
